Educational Vision

Research and Technology Translation Vision

ESE aims to offer an education that is intellectually deep, technically rigorous, and strongly connected to real systems. The department sees teaching not as a routine academic obligation, but as a foundational part of how capability is built. Students should leave ESE not only with course credits, but with a serious understanding of their field, experience with open-ended engineering problems, and the maturity to contribute to research, technology development, industry, or entrepreneurship. This educational vision emphasizes strong core foundations, meaningful project work, closer PhD–M.Tech interaction, and an academic culture that values curiosity, discipline, and ambition.

Industry and National Mission Role

ESE sees itself as an active contributor to India’s long-horizon technology priorities. The department is already engaged in major national efforts across semiconductors, 2D materials, quantum technologies, skilling, secure electronics, and strategic systems. Going forward, this role is expected to deepen through larger mission programs, stronger ministry-facing initiatives, broader industry partnerships, translational platforms, and cross-institutional collaborations. The department’s role in this context is not merely to support external missions, but to shape them intellectually through research, talent, and technology-building capability.

Vision, Mission & Values

Our Vision

To build ESE into one of India’s most consequential and internationally visible departments in the broad field of electronics—known for vertical integration from science to translation, for leadership in strategically important technologies, and for creating research, talent, and platforms that matter to the country and to the world.

Our Mission

ESE’s mission is to advance the frontiers of electronics through deep research, rigorous education, translational engineering, and mission-oriented engagement. The department seeks to build capability across semiconductors, quantum technologies, secure and efficient computing, intelligent systems, healthcare electronics, communication networks, and cyber-physical infrastructure, while training students to think beyond short-term outputs and contribute to long-horizon technological change.

Our Values

  • Academic seriousness: We value rigor, depth, clarity of thought, and intellectual honesty.
  • Long-horizon ambition: We encourage students and faculty to think beyond incremental work and engage with grand scientific and technological problems.
  • Integration across scales: We value research that can connect materials, devices, circuits, systems, algorithms, and deployment.
  • Foundational strength with translational openness: We believe deep science and real-world impact must strengthen, not diminish, each other.
  • Responsibility and accountability: Flexibility in academic life must be matched by ownership, discipline, and integrity.
  • Collaboration and community: ESE seeks to function as a department, not merely as a set of isolated groups.
  • National relevance with global standards: We aspire to work on problems that matter to India while benchmarking ourselves against the best groups worldwide.
  • Inclusion and respect: We believe a strong department is built through dignity, fairness, mutual respect, and a healthy environment for learning and research.
